Artsakh Uprooted is now available on YouTube!
When people ask me where I'm from, where home is, I never quite know how to answer. It depends on where I am, who's asking, and how much time I have. A few months ago, I had the honor of participating in the groundbreaking "Artsakh Uprooted" symposium, hosted by the USC Dornsife Institute of Armenian Studies. Our panel, called (Re)Starting Again, explored the nuances and hardships of starting (over and over) again. We spoke about how war has shaped our lives and our decisions. We shared our personal, lived experiences in an honest, vulnerable discussion that felt more like a conversation among friends. I was grateful to share the stage with Ashot Gabrielyan and Nina Shahverdyan, two people whose voice and action continue to inspire me and, I'm sure, countless others. A heartfelt thank you to our brilliant moderator Margarita Baghdasaryan for asking the kinds of questions that truly matter. More than 1,000 people - Armenian and not - gathered at USC’s Bovard Auditorium to attend panel discussions, multimedia artistic presentations, and live performances. It meant a great deal to me to help bring the Armenian experience into the broader, global conversation on displacement and cultural erasure - not only as someone who has lived in Artsakh, but also as a Lebanese Armenian with roots in Kessab. You can watch (Re)Starting Again here: https://lnkd.in/gaSDASCg I’ll leave you with this, home isn't always a place. Sometimes it's a cause. Sometimes it's a story. And sometimes, it's a privilege. How do you respond when someone asks, “Where are you from?"
